Thirty days for this blog and about 50 days corseting under my belt. I'm still a huge believer in corsets for fibromyalgia and with the passage of time I'm beginning to experiment with other shapes and brands of corsets.
Using the orchard corset shapes as a standard, I've found relief in all but the short waist cinching 301 which was incredibly uncomfortable. Basically what I'm finding is that it's key that the corset float above the ribs. Too short and it digs in and it did flare me.
I originally intended to be a stealth wearer but some things are too beautiful to hide. I used to love to sew prior to fibro, my equipment has sat gathering dust for a long time. I bought a 411 limited edition underbust corset when it was steeply discounted to get a feel for the shape. It was really comfortable for moving around. I still had to wear a bra :( but the mobility was a great in certain situations. It's only downfall was I found the color drab. This sparked a creative urge that got my sewing machine dusted off.
Since I've exhausted the fibro benefits topic that I've been blogging about, I want to use this place to motivate myself to be creative. Document corset embellishment projects, fashion shapes that I find particularly flattering for corset wear and hopefully one day make my own corsets and clothing. It's hard, I know the days of running up an outfit in an hour are behind me but my first embellishment project taught me to be patient. I hope you enjoy what I have to share.

Bordered with light pink and tapestry ribbon. Ribbon roses applied between busk loops, laces replaced with matching ribbon.
This was a very simple project. The ribbons were sewn directly to the corset, lifting the needle when coming to boning and busks. The ribbon was wrapped around the busk and pinned in place as I approached that area so the front sewing secured the ribbon on the inside. All ribbon edges were sealed with fray check liquid. On the lacing edge I folded under the ribbon as I approached the edge so the ribbon ended as close as possible to the lacing satin. There was still a sliver of tan fabric that showed on that edge so I zig zag stitched with black thread on the button hole setting to bridge this gap. I top stitched the boning areas to give the boning areas a finished look. I used black thread on my bobbin to match the lining fabric and traded out between pink and black on top so the top stitching coordinated. With the tapestry ribbon I sewed the busk loop side ribbons in place first so that I could match the ribbon pattern on the spike side. Then I finished the project by hand sewing the purchased ribbon roses into place. I think this project came out feeling a bit Swiss alps and am planning a simple white peasant top and full skirt to complete the look. :D
